10 Things NOT to Say on an Interview:

by The Foxy Life, on Fri Sep 18, 2009 7:31pm PDT

Job interviews... Most of us have been on a few (or more) and many consider them to be nerve-wracking (at best) and downright painful (at worst). We can't really tell you how to land the ideal job, but we can give you a few pointers on what to avoid. While it's important to let your personality shine through in an interview and to be sincere, it's not the right time to let it all hang out. Here, our list of top things to avoid uttering...

  1. "I Need The Money…” Even if the fact that you only have $25 in your bank account is the reason you’re going back to work after a hiatus (traveling through Europe, raising the kids, laid off, etc.), don’t ever mention it. The interviewer doesn’t need to know you’re hard-up for cash. It may unintentionally sound like you’re there only to earn money and that you’re not really interested in working. The goal is to always show passion and enthusiasm for the company and the position you are being interviewed for.

  2. “My Last Boss Was A Jerk…” Dissing your previous employer has no upside, no matter how awful he/she treated you. Even if he/she made “Ari Gold” on Entourage look like an angel, sharing the details can come off sounding rude and disrespectful to potential co-workers and those who are “higher up” on the food chain than you. So remember to ban the bad-mouthing.

  3. “It’s Worse Than Being A Republican/Democrat…” It’s wise to remain neutral by keeping your political views to yourself. Even if you feel fairly certain that the interviewer (and company) share your perspective, this type of conversation can easily lead to major disagreements and conflict (unless, of course, you might be interviewing for a political job where this becomes very relevant).

  4. “Thank The Lord…” It’s beautiful to have faith, but similar to discussing politics at work, religious statements, even innocuous ones, aren’t a good tactic during job interviews. They could possibly offend the person you’re meeting with, or cause them to see you in an inaccurate light.

  5. “What The Hell…” While certain curse words seem to have become part of popular vernacular, they aren’t the right way to spice up your personal sales pitch. Keep your language clean as a whistle on job interviews. There’s never a good reason to use expletives to get your point and your passion across!

  6. “My Kid’s Always Getting Sick…” Oftentimes, a mention of kids or family may come into the conversation and it’s always nice to give a little taste of your life outside of the office. But don’t take that too far. If you mention that your child is constantly getting sick, an employer may worry that you’ll be easily absent or distracted because of it. Similarly, if your spouse or child has a chronic condition that warrants attention, save it as a personal matter. Assume that you can do the job (if you’re hired) in the best possible way without letting things on the home front interrupt you – in which case, what happens in your private time is your private business.

  7. “A 9-5 Schedule Is Best For Me…” No one wants to think they might be hiring a clock watcher or someone who’s going to be way too eager to race out the door at the stroke of 5pm. It’s not a good idea to mention that you have a class three evenings a week at 6pm either. The employer needs to feel that your job will be the main priority. Your schedule will evolve (and work best for you and the employer) once you’ve landed the gig.

  8. “I’m Vegan…” Certain people may make false assumptions about your personality based on the fact that you’re a vegan, vegetarian, don’t eat wheat, soy, or any other type of food lifestyle you choose. It sounds silly, but find ways to let them know who you are without leaving yourself open to judgment.

  9. “I Don’t Have Time To Read Much…” Whether it’s newspapers, magazines, the web, or books, reading is generally seen as something that increases intelligence and breadth of knowledge. You should also make it a point to do your reading homework and learn as much as possible about the employer you are meeting with. It can easily impress an interviewer when you’re up to date on current events as well as what’s new with the company and that specific industry. Which means you should be reading something!

  10. “I’m Terrified of Flying…” The job you’re interviewing for may require flying at some point, so your employer needs to know you can handle it. If you have a phobia or family situation that will prohibit your ability to do your job, you should ask questions like: “How much travel will be involved, and where would I be traveling to?”

sometimes we just need to pray...

When you are in doubt and you cant see your way out
PRAY
He will see you through...TRUST!!! and HAVE FAITH!!!

Everyone has problems...everyone has those days when you just want to be alone
and when you have just given your all just hold on...GOD IS ON THE WAY!

God has blessed me to see how great He is through situations in my life at this moment. I have met a set of people that have shown me and taught me some of the greatest lessons I could never buy in a store or through tuition. He has taught me to stand on my own and be strong in my own right. Alot of times we look to each other for the answers and yea it may get you through one night BUT WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THE REST OF YOUR LIFE?

I have learned not to lean so hard heartedly on others because just as I will, they will let you down everytime. You really cant blame them or look at them differently because we are all one in the same. We are all human and we make mistakes.

Lets start praying for each other...can we agree on that?

Eat These 3 Foods Before Bed Tonight and Fall Asleep Faster

by Sarah Jio, Vitamin G, Glamour Magazine, on Fri Sep 18, 2009 8:27am PDT

If you ever have trouble falling asleep, consider having one of these three things sometime before bed tonight--they could help you sleep better!
Trouble falling asleep? Try these tips that I found over on Fox.com:

Have a salad! Gillian McKeith, a holistic nutritionist and author of You Are What You Eat and Food Bible: How to Use Food to Cure What Ails You says that lettuce contains a "milky sap" that contains an "opium-like substance called lactucin that can help induce sleep and relaxation." (Is that not the craziest fact you've heard in a long time?)

Have some tea--with honey. McKeith points out that past studies have found that honey contains a natural compound called "orexin" that can help the brain to mellow out and prepare for sleep.

How about some oatmeal? Oats have a "tranquilizing and nerve-restorative properties" she says.

(Early) Sweet dreams! xo

Deborah Cox, Tamia, and Kelly Price in ONE group...MUSIC TO MY EARS!!!

Deborah Cox is looking forward to unveiling something never seen before -- the formation of a supergroup with fellow R&B songbirds Kelly Price and Tamia.Breaking news of the group's formation via BV Buzz, Cox says "It's really the most exciting project I've been a part of. We're going to be raising the bar just a tad." "It's great to work with likeminded individuals. We have the same sentiments as singers, mothers and wives!"According to Cox, Price and Tamia, the group has been dubbed TDK -- Tamia, Deborah and Kelly. While a label home has not been revealed for the group's forthcoming debut, a compilation album titled "The Queen Project," the trio says a single titled "Queen" will lead the effort."Truly I am excited because what we're doing has never been done before with three women on CD," Price told BV Buzz. "Each of us in our own right is a true vocalist and while I am loving what we're doing in the studio, I just can't wait for people to see our live show!"TDK is reportedly recording songs in Los Angeles with noted producers Warryn Campbell (Mary Mary) and Shep Crawford (Heather Headley)."It is fun and we have a really good time together. There's something special here musically and we have a genuine bond," says Tamia.

We love ROMANCE

This is the word that explains us as beautiful women in entirety: ROMANCE which simply states "choose me." I feel that we all just want to be chosen. Its in our DNA and there is no way we can hide from it or deny. In this game of love, its bitter and its sweet. It can be so beautiful but change into your present or future agony. I believe this is why we struggle and why things are so complicated. Guys do not want to wine and dine, go on dates, but is quick to hit and quit it, and we allow them to do so because we want to be the chosen one. We set our standards but dont apply them to our everyday lives. It's one thing to go to college and learn and it is another to be able to perform duties in the workplace. You cant do one without the other, but I feel one weighs more than the other. Why do we allow these actions and violations? Why dont we start setting our standards and applying them? Why are we walking around accepting things we know are wrong? We know when we are being violated from the "hey shawty" to the constant disrespect of inappropriate hand gestures and foul language. We just all want to be chosen and thats ok but ladies let's set the standard and apply them no matter the battle...

HA!

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOURSELF?

By Jane Powell - http://www.meditationsforwomen.com/

"There are many ways to know yourself."

You are a multifaceted person. Discovering yourself can be the adventure of a lifetime. Learning how comfortable or uncomfortable you are in certain situations, if you're outgoing or quiet, what makes you happy or sad, and knowing what you're good at and what you're not, is part of nurturing a balanced life. Do you know all those things about yourself? Or, are you too busy, too stressed or too focused on someone else to care?

Knowing as much as you can about yourself makes decision-making easier. When you know "you," it's easier to ensure that your choices are the right ones. This knowledge is your key to harmony and balance. So, take the time to know yourself. It’s the only way to make certain that you live a happy, fulfilling life.

lets make love...100th post (yay!!!)

just think about these things...

so bored here at work....but something came to mind

ive often wondered what it would be like if i could just press the rewind button
would the pain of losing you just go away?
if i can look back and rekindle all the great memories we shared
would it in the end be worth it?
would i be the individual that i see in the mirror when i wake in the morning to start a new day?
could i have hugged you more and told you in words that i love you?
will we ever meet again in heaven?
this heartbreak is not over a guy that i had the chance of being with in a moment
this heartbreak is from losing that special someone that adored me from the day i was born and looked at me like i was the most precious thing in the world
idk why you just came to mind but i do still miss you and i know you are in heaven smiling down on me

love you PAPA:)

have you ever lost someone you loved that was dear to your heart?
if so share if you dont mind

btw i would like to take the time out to remember those we lost in 9/11.

Overcome by Faith

I was having Bible study just a few moments ago with a group of friends (it was so powerful and wonderful in so many ways) and I have to share the experience with you guys because I know I am not the only one that feels this way and I know it will be helpful to someone willing to read and who just wants a closer relationship with God because you have turned to everything else and nothing else works. The title of the lesson was Overcome by Faith. In the story, Jesus removes an evil spirit from a little boy. This little boy's father did everything he could do for his son, the little boy, and so the father gave the little boy to Jesus and let Him handle the situation. The story starts with Jesus' disciples not being able to handle the situation because they didnt realize their authority and decided to cast out the evil spirit through arguing. Jesus steps in (the power over all things) and cast out the evil spirit from the little boy because of course Jesus is the only way to cast out evil spirits. He is!!!! period. Read Mark 9: 14-29

Basically what hit me the most was when the father of the little boy cried out "I do believe...help me to overcome my unbelief" after Jesus told him, "Everything is possible for him who believes." Sometimes we try to do everything on our own and we take for granted that God is the only one we can run to in a time of trouble. His is the only way. Jesus came to earth to die for our sins and that should show us enough that He cares and will be there for us no matter what the situation. But as humans thinking only with the physical mind we like to see things right now at this second, we dont even realize what God is already doing in our lives. He is the only one to turn to. After friends have given all the advice they can give, after family have given all they can, you have to go to God. There is only so much friends and family can do and even boyfriends for that matter. We need to trust in Him and have faith. He is here to meet you halfway even for those who dont know who He is or dont care to know...He is still there! He has not forgotten about you...you are His child. He will never forsake you...trust in Him!!!!

I just had to share this with you because it really touched my heart. Please read the passage for yourself...it will help you in your walk with Christ. Also we need to start praying for each other and with each other...thats another subject I will touch on later on so be on the look out!!!....love you guys...stay strong...and have faith!!!

Lately...

I am beginning to get really really really really really nervous about my next steps. In a month I will be going to a regional conference catered to black college students getting great opportunities in Corporate America. Dont get me wrong, I am excited!!!, but I am just nervous all over. Top corporations will be there and interviews are going to be set up hopefully. It is going to be a 3-day career fair full of having to prove yourself among others just as competitive as you and executives that could be the deciding factor for your future. I am tremendously overwhelmed with thoughts and excitement....Wish me luck!!! or shall I say Pray for Me and ill do the same for you:)

btw tell me about some things you are going through right now that you feel is major and tell me how are getting through them...thanks.

Quote of the day: You have to see things as though they were...in other words...You gotta see it before you see it, or you never will see it!!!

Lady Love Review

I have to say that this whole album is on point...I LOVE every song on here. It is an album of just knowing who you are in love and what you dont want from the opposite. If I had to choose a top 5 favorites besides the first 2 singles I would say:
1. lazy
2. good to me
3. regret
4. tears
5. dont need you
They all have a great story and the lyrics are simply on point!!! So I give Letoya (drumroll please lol) 2 thumbs UP!
